The Holier Than Thou Spirit Worker
The holier than thou spirit worker is deep in their shadow.
And they have no idea.
How do I know? I used to be one of them.
My work was cleaner, purer, I was vegan, alcohol didn’t touch my lips, I didn't go out, I hadn't watched TV in a decade. I had built myself a spirit prison and called it devotion.
Every other spirit worker who showed any semblance of humanity was suspect, not as advanced and obviously needed more training. I thought I was discerning. I was pontificating, driven by my own shadow demons of judgment and jealousy, completely blind to what was actually running me.
Then the Angelic Kingdom refused to work with me. "Stop judging or we are out”. Ouch! That was the moment. Not a teacher, not a training, not a revelation. A withdrawal of support from the very beings I thought I was serving.
What followed was a deep shadow detox. "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things” Romans 2:1-3 Who was I to judge anyone? The God complex HAD to be transformed.
When I released the judgment, something I didn't expect happened. I became more human and I started enjoying life. Mistakes became information instead of evidence of failure. My heart, which had been quietly closing for years, opened. Judgment closes the heart, jealousy hardens it. I didn't know how shut down I had become until I wasn't anymore.
I see it every day now. The subtle and not so subtle attacks.
"I am a better spirit worker because I don't drink alcohol."
"I am a better spirit worker because I don't use AI."
"I am a better spirit worker because I am essentially perfect."
You have just gone back to Go, you will not be collecting $200. The irony is that this shadow, the one that looks the most spiritual, is the one that will stall your practice faster than anything else.
And here is the part nobody talks about. If you cannot let other spirit workers be on their own path, you will never be able to let your clients be on theirs either.
That is not holding space, that is client energetic imprisonment. The judgment you carry for your peers will leak into every session, every container, every relationship you hold. You cannot give your clients freedom you haven't given yourself.
A note on discernment. This is not about staying silent when someone is causing genuine harm. If calling out dangerous practice is your work, do it. That is discernment and it matters. This is about something different. The quiet, daily, low-level superiority that has nothing to do with protecting anyone and everything to do with managing your own shadow. Live and let live is not spiritual bypassing. It is spiritual maturity.
Releasing judgment of other spirit workers will elevate your practice more than any training, any attunement, any certification you will ever do. Not because it makes you nicer. Because it makes you honest.
And honest practitioners do the real work.
If you recognise yourself in any of this, that recognition is not shame.
It's the beginning.
The shadow you can see is already halfway healed.
